Year 1 - Giraffes

This week we've been using flowers to make some beautiful cards and easter goodies!

For our reading reward we spent some time having fun on the field and enjoyed a biscuit! Please help me earn my next reading reward by listening to me read at home at least 3x a week.

Wilder Schools visited us this week. We enjoyed learning outside and finding out about the parts of plants.

In maths we have been learning doubles. Please help me practise knowing my doubles to 20 by heart. I need to be able to quickly answer questions such as... 6+6 =12 / Double 9 is 18 etc.

In Geography we have been learning about weather and have practised looking at a thermometer to tell how hot or cold it is

In Literacy this half term we have enjoyed looking at traditional tales and had fun retelling them.

In phonics we have learned that:

The s sound can be written using ‘ce’, ‘se’:

prince / pence / fence

house / mouse / purse

 

The n sound can be written using ‘gn’, ‘kn’:

This week in DT we have been practising our cutting skills and learning about wheels and axels.

We had a visit from Wilder schools this week. We had fun looking for different birds outside. We enjoyed making our own bird feeders.

In history we have started to learn about Mary Anning. We had a go at being a fossil hunter.

In DT we have been exploring how adding weight to a structure can make it more stable. In science we have been thinking about seasons. We observed our oustide area, looking for signs of winter. Please help me to look outside first thing in the morning and last thing before bed. What do I notice? Please discuss that in winter the hours of daylight are shorter and help me to notice it is darker for longer.

For RE this week we had a visit from City Mission. We learned about journeys, thinking about the Nativity

In music we have been exploring different percussion instruments.

In PE we were practising different balances

In DT we have started to explore what makes something stable or unstable through trying different balances ourselves

In PSHE we have been learning about how germs spread and how to ensure we thoroughly clean our hands

In art we have been painting our own plates inspired by the artist Clarice Cliff.

In Geography we have been learning about human and physical features. We have identified different types of homes and had a go at drawing and building them

We have been using sketchpad to create self portraits

In Maths we have been practicing 'more than' and 'less than'

This week we have been doing some gardening and planting some seeds

In computing we have been developing our mousepad skills whilst using sketchpad.

This week we have been doing some painting inspired by Jasper Johns, thinking about our use of primary and secondary colours.
