Literacy

Today the children will have the opportunity to fill in the missing words in our instructions on how to make porridge. The words will be said by the teacher and then the child will need to break the word into it's sounds to help them spell it. Don't forget to encourage your child to use their sound mat. The gaps are suggestions of the sorts of words your child should be able to write using their sounds. Your child does not need to fill in all of the gaps, you can help them to complete the booklet, but we would like them to have a good go and try their hardest. Once you and your child have worked together to fill in all of the missing gaps, they can then follow their instructions to make their own porridge.

Do not worry if your child cannot hear all of the sounds in the words, please praise them for the sounds they do hear. We want this is be a positive experience so they enjoy beginning to write. Have fun with your child writing instructions and then making their own porridge.

If your child has a star on the front of their instructions please watch this video.

Follow the instructions you have written with your child and have a go at making your own porridge! Be creative, what toppings are you going to add? If you are not hungry now, why don't you do this activity at a time that you are ready to taste the porridge such as tomorrow morning for breakfast.

Have fun. There is a sachet of porridge in your pack.
