Happy New Year!
We are excited to welcome the children back to school and start a new term of learning. This term our topic is 'Incredible Creatures'. We will be learning all about different animals and doing some exciting learning linking to this theme in Literacy, Art, Science, Music and History.
Before Christmas the children were sent home with an information pack of key learning e.g. the sounds we have learned, words they need to be able to read and spell and number facts they need to know. Please keep this pack at home and use it to support your child's learning, we do not need it returning to school. Thank you

Some of our writing about fireworks...
In phonics this week we will be practising reading words and sentences with the sounds we have learned. Between now and Christmas we will not be introducing new sounds but instead practising all of the sounds we have been introduced to so far and making sure we are confident at spotting them in words.
Help me to practise reading these words and sentences:

He explained how he worked towards becoming a world champion by never giving up, working hard and overcoming fear of failure.

The children have settled brilliantly into Year 1 and have had a great first half term. We hope you all have a lovely half term break and look forward to seeing everyone on Monday 31st October. Please remember it is non school uniform day when we return and the children are welcome to dress up for Halloween - Please see the school App for more information.
How you can help your child with their learning:
Reading- Please listen to your child read at least 3x a week. This will have a massive impact on their learning. We have sent home packs with the sounds your child needs to continue to practise. We will be helping your child to practise these sounds at school but extra practise at home would be very beneficial. There are words on the reverse of the flashcards so you can see what the sound is in a word and also listen to your child read the words. If your child was not sent home a pack of sounds today (Friday 21st October) then they already know all of the sounds taught so far. These packs will include sounds that were taught in year R.
Maths – ‘White Rose 1 Minute Maths’ is a free app available to download from Apple App Store, Google Play or Amazon Kindle. Short, regular play on the app will help to build your child’s confidence and fluency with maths.
For this half term please focus on ‘Addition’.
Spellings - Please help your child to learn to spell the word sent home and practise using these in sentences when writing.
