Literacy

1.

Discuss with your child:

Should the singing mermaid have gone with someone she didn’t know?

Link this to how we can keep ourselves safe.

Introduce the robot ‘Clever’.

He has a rule on how to be clever and keep ourselves safe.

Explain it is good to be friendly and polite to people. But if anyone asks you to go with them you should think …

Clever Never Goes!

2.

Help your child to make their own Clever Never Goes robot.

You can use whatever you have handy around your home.

Such as:

  • Cereal boxes
  • Plastic bottles and bottle lids
  • Clean tins (beans, soup etc.)
  • Empty toilet/ kitchen rolls
  • Tin foil
  • Toilet roll tissue
  • Pens/paint/crayons
  • Buttons
  • Yoghurt pots

3.

Once your child has made their robot you can discuss different scenarios with them and they can decide what the robot should do.

For example:

A person at the park talks to you and your parents about the weather. Is it ok to be polite and talk to them?

An old lady asks you to come and help her look for her puppy in the bushes. Should you go with her?

A person asks if you have seen their dog. Should you talk to them?
